First Grade Class Teacher

Lake Champlain Waldorf School is seeking a first grade class teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator to start this class on their elementary school journey.  The selected candidate will join a vibrant, collaborative and inspired group of teachers in our lower school program.

At LCWS class teachers deliver Main Lessons, core academics, arts, our anti-bias curriculum, and tend to the overall social life of the class community. Class teachers are supported by specialists in music, Spanish, handwork, and gym. Collaborative, programmatic support is provided in math and professional development is provided in Language Arts through a partnership with the Stern Center for Language and Learning. A full-time School Counselor and a full-time Special Educator complement our pedagogical team. Mentorship and professional development are provided to all new teachers.  Class teachers are active members of the Lower School Branch and work together to make the decisions that affect their students. Class teachers remain with their class as they journey through our lower school and as a result develop close relationships with their students and their families.

Our well-established K-12 school is both grounded and innovative; we are deeply rooted in the traditional Waldorf curriculum while also reaching into the future through an educational emphasis on social, racial, and environmental justice. We offer a vibrant learning community on two campuses in northwestern Vermont (more about the area below). The Lower School and Early Childhood campus (K-6) is surrounded by Nature Conservancy forest, literally at its doorstep. Since September of 2020, we have made use of our outdoor classrooms whenever possible as a complement to our beautiful classroom building.

We are a close, collaborative, and dedicated group of class teachers, subject teachers, and administrators, working to develop new models of instruction that serve the students of the 21st century. We are dedicated to supporting and promoting the qualities at the heart of our mission: creativity, compassion, inclusivity and innovative problem-solving.

Moving to Vermont

There are many reasons why, in the past few years, many people are moving to the Green Mountain State. Vermont has a strong social fabric. We care for the environments that build our state’s character — protected rural landscapes, historic villages and downtowns, working farms, and a thriving cultural scene. Our school is in Vermont’s Champlain Valley, framed by Lake Champlain’s stunning coastline to the west, and the Green Mountains to the east. Between, you’ll find four-season fun with beaches and rivers for swimming and paddling, and a network of trails to hike, bike, ski, snowboard, and snowshoe. Burlington, just a few miles from our school, is an arts hub with world-class events, performances, and many educational opportunities supported by the University of Vermont and three local colleges. Downtown offers farm-to-table restaurants, food coops, great shopping, and easy-to-access necessities. Vermont is a perfect place to raise a family, with a small population that fosters connection and engagement. Here, you can create a pace for family life that brings ease, rhythm, and spontaneity. Reach out to any member of our faculty and staff to learn more about what we love about our school and our state.
