Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees has members drawn from parents, the faculty and staff, and the larger community. It ensures the legal and financial well-being of the school and has a fiduciary responsibility to the school. Its responsibilities include fundraising, strategic planning, and budget approval. Board meetings are held every month.

Ana-Klara Anderson

Trustee (she/her)
Ana-Klara is a corporate attorney focusing on the licensing of arts and entertainment in international business markets. She has a PhD and JD from the University of Florida and is a veteran.  She and her family moved to Vermont from Florida during the pandemic so that her children could trade in virtual learning for outdoor classrooms.  The hands-on experiences, nurturing care and critical thinking skills her two children continue to receive at LCWS motivate her to serve. As chair of the Development Committee, she works to inspire financial support for LCWS from the business community, create opportunities for current families and alumni to share their own time, talents and resources, and to make a Waldorf education more accessible to every student.

Lowell Bailey

Trustee (he/him)
Lowell brings experience in nonprofit leadership and organizational strategy to the Lake Champlain Waldorf School community. He has served as High Performance Director for the U.S. Biathlon Team since 2019 and previously made history in 2017 as the first American biathlon World Champion. Lowell is a graduate of the University of Vermont and lives in Shelburne with his wife, Erika, and their three children, where they enjoy gardening, hiking, biking, and spending time outdoors.

Christina Bell

Vice President (she/her)
Christina is the parent of two LCWS students and has been part of the school community since 2016. She’s inspired by the meaningful, hands-on learning experiences the school provides for our students. She has served in multiple leadership roles, including Board President (2020–2023), and currently, Vice President where she focuses on supporting the school’s future and long-term financial health. With a background in both education and business, she brings a thoughtful, community-centered perspective to her work on the board.

Danielle Cox

Trustee (she/her)
Born in Connecticut, Danielle came to Burlington after studying Environmental Science and working in Montana and California.  With a continued interest in education, she was introduced to LCWS through Star Garden Parent & Child sessions in 2011. Operations and management for small family businesses has been the focus of work for decades – especially the creation of delicious and memorable experiences! She can be found out in the mountains or enjoying Burlington and the lake, no matter the season. After 10 years in attendance as a parent at LCWS, she now serves on the Board of Trustees as a means to give back to the community that has given our family so much.

Aaron Darland

Faculty Representative (he/him)
Aaron joined LCWS in 2019 as a math teacher and since then has expanded to teach a variety of subjects. Aaron loves math: the structure, clarity, and the problem-solving methods. With a BA from Franklin Pierce College and a love of the phenomenological approach to learning, Aaron is excited to bring his passion for learning to the students, showing them that learning doesn’t need to be intimidating. Aaron enjoys life and spreadsheets.

Amelia Davis

Trustee (she/her)
Amelia is an LCWS alumna, full time potter, and mother living in North Ferrisburgh. She graduated from Naropa University with degrees in Environmental Studies and Traditional Eastern Arts. Amelia is a community-oriented creative thinker who is excited to contribute to the goals of the school as they continue to evolve. Her service on the board is rooted in deep gratitude for the way the transition to LCWS in middle school reshaped her place in the world for the better. In her down time, she loves to be outside- gardening or walking, knit sweaters, see live music, spend time in the kitchen, and explore what it means to foster a bioregional sense of place in modern times.
Amanda Herzberger

Amanda Herzberger

President (she/her)
Amanda joined the Waldorf board as President in 2023. She graduated from the Cornell Hotel School and operated Orchard Cove Photography (specializing in wedding and family portraits) for 15 years. More recently she ran the Junior League of Champlain Valley’s Diaper Bank for five years before joining the Waldorf board. She lives in Shelburne with her husband, Jeff, their two daughters, Norah and Julia (LCWS Students), and their two yellow labs, Rocket and Stitch. She is an avid (some say obsessive!) quilter and crafter, and loves experimenting with color (the more rainbows the better!) and pattern in her work.

Bailey Johns

Faculty Representative (she/her)
Bailey interned at Lake Champlain Waldorf School in the Spring of 2016. She taught first and second grades in Chicago before returning to Vermont. Ms. Johns has a BA from Kenyon College in math and dance, a Master of Education in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Antioch University, and a Waldorf Teaching Certificate from the Center for Anthroposophy. Over the past nine years, Ms. Johns has taught all eight grades and graduated her first class in June 2025. Outside of school, Ms. Johns loves to read, knit, and soak up the sun!

Kristin Knight

Trustee (she/her)
Kristin, a current parent to two kiddos at the Lake Champlain Waldorf School, discovered the benefits of a Waldorf education through her children’s in-home child care provider. This ultimately led her family to embrace the community at LCWS. She has been an active parent volunteer; as a class parent, work day champion, Building & Grounds committee member and co-leading the Parent Community Council. She is thrilled to bring her operational and project management experience to the board, supporting our school and community as it continues to thrive now and into the future.

Lindsay Miles

Faculty Representative (she/her)
Lindsay has been working in Waldorf Early Childhood classrooms since 2008. She was initially drawn to this education for her daughter, but Lindsay soon realized that teaching children and Waldorf education were her calling. Inspired by nature, Lindsay was a part of the Farm and Forest movement for the past several years and is excited to bring her love of nature and connection to the great outdoors to the kindergarten at LCWS. She enjoys the joy, innocence, and adventure that comes with each day in the classroom. When she is not teaching, Lindsay loves to play music, read, and garden. She and her husband are avid farmers and enjoy spending time outside with their children.

Chris Smith

Trustee (he/him)
Chris works as a Construction manager for Sterling Homes. He has two children (Lincoln a 4th grader at LCWS and Tessa a Freshman at CVU) and loves hunting and fishing with his family. He brings his expertise to the Buildings and Grounds committee and loves chaperoning the LCWS Ski program in the winter.

Chris Tirrell

Treasurer (he/him)
Professionally, Chris is a senior legal counsel for Google’s “X” division, a team that creates breakthroughs in science and technology across a diverse portfolio of projects, including autonomous vehicles, alternative energy sources, and artificial intelligence. Personally, Chris is engaged with the Lake Champlain Waldorf School community and is grateful for the way it inspires his children to explore, respect others, and wonder about the world around them.
