After School Sports

After school sports for the 2025-26 season will include the following options described below. All students are welcome, no matter their skill or experience level. We encourage families to create a schedule that is manageable for the student-athlete so they can commit fully and gain all of the valuable experiences that come with being part of a team. There is no fee to join LCWS after school sports.

New this year: Sign up for After School Sports through Ravenna.
All forms, including the Concussion Form and the Wellness Exam Form, can be completed in your “Back to School” forms through Ravenna on the Parent Portal. These forms must be completed before the first practice.

FALL

CROSS COUNTRY
Grades 6-12
Begins August 25 and regular season starts with a practice on Wednesday, September 3. Practice each week is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:30-5:15 pm at the Turtle Lane Campus.

Cross Country is for sixth through twelfth graders who are excited to run, challenge themselves, and be contributing members of a positive, energetic team. It is a great chance to be a part of a team with your friends while striving for your personal best. As with any team, athletes are asked to commit fully, including all practices and meets. (If your student is excited but a little nervous I encourage them to join us!)

Practices start after school and run until 5:15 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Practices are held at the Turtle Lane Campus and pick up, will be at the end of Turtle Lane (at the intersection of Harbor Road and Turtle Lane). Students who end their school days at the Bostwick Campus will be given time to walk to Turtle Lane. If parents/caretakers are more comfortable, they are welcome to drive their student(s) from Bostwick Road to Turtle Lane. There may also be practices and pick-ups at the Shelburne Post Office and parents will always be notified of any pickup that is different from the usual schedule.

Runners will also be competing in meets against local schools. These meets will be held on various days of the week, including one or two weekend options. If your student is in high school and would like to participate in meets  please let me know so that I can look into race opportunities. You will find the current meet schedule on the all-school calendar once it is finalized. Please note that it is subject to change.

SOCCER CLUB
Grades 6-8
September 4 to late October
Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00 pm and Thursdays 2:15-4:00 pm
Bostwick Road Campus

Soccer club is for students who would like extra time to work on their soccer skills and play with their friends. The club will include soccer drills, skill-building, scrimmaging, and games. Players will be asked to have soccer cleats and shin guards to participate, and mouth guards are highly recommended. Students who are dismissed at Turtle Lane may walk as a group to Bostwick Road Campus. However, if parents/caretakers are more comfortable, they are welcome to drive their student(s) from Turtle Lane to Bostwick Road. We have scheduled a few games, but game participation will ultimately depend on our numbers. Please feel free to contact Maeve Taylor or Tyler Macdonald if you are interested in playing and or have any questions.

FALL ROWING CLUB
Grades 7-12
Practice Schedule TBD, 4:00-5:30 pm
Practices will be in Burlington on Mondays and Vergennes on Tuesdays.

The fall season will most likely start at the beginning of the school year, more details coming soon. Rowers can sign up for one or two days and must commit to making all of the practices. Each seat in the boat is critical and Coach Maria can coach successfully when she has a consistent and predictable team in the boat. Please note that rowers will travel to practice through parent carpooling. We expect a $30 fee per student  for the use of equipment (PFDs and boats) from the Maritime Museum. This fee will be charged to parents.

VOLLEYBALL CLUB
Grades 8-12
Practices will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00 pm
Bostwick Road Campus

Volleyball Club is for students who would like to develop their volleyball skills and knowledge through regular play of the game. Through small practice games, drills, and scrimmages, the players will learn the rules and positions of volleyball in a friendly and supportive environment. Knee pads are recommended for many players, but other than this players will just need attire they can comfortably move in. All practices will be held at the Bostwick sport court, so practices may be occasionally cancelled due to weather. Faculty Aaron Darland will be the coach for Volleyball Club.

WINTER

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL
Grades 6-8

The basketball schedule is in the process of being set and it will be shared as the season gets closer. There is no basketball over school breaks. Both teams may have a couple of Friday practices as well as games on various days of the week. Players will need indoor basketball shoes and mouth guards are highly recommended.

HIGH SCHOOL ROCK CLIMBING CLUB
Grades 9-12
One day a week, after school. Day of the week TBD
All practices take place at Petra Cliffs Indoor Climbing Center, 105 Briggs St. Burlington.

Rock Climbing Club is an opportunity for high school students to begin to develop or improve on their climbing skills in a supportive, safe and fun environment. LCWS faculty, assisted by Petra Cliffs staff, help students learn to face climbing challenges and improve their agility and endurance. Faculty and students will carpool to Petra Cliffs each week and parents should pick up at the Climbing Center.
